Want to Participate?

The High Plains Institute for Arts and Ecology, with support from the Tecovas Foundation, is seeking artists and makers to create participatory projects for this year’s HooDoo Festival at Arts in the Sunset.

We will support four teams with grants of $500 each. We are looking for projects that bring something fun, beautiful, meaningful, or exciting to the festival. The gift to the HooDoo community must be free to experience and ideally include an interactive element.

Projects may include art installations, performances, costumes, demonstrations, creative activities, or something we have not imagined yet. This initiative takes inspiration from events like Burning Man, where participants create experiences for the community rather than simply attending.

Projects involving an in-person presentation or activity should be available for at least half of the event, or approximately four hours.

HooDoo has identified a need for more free and interactive activities. Arts in the Sunset has provided a few basic guidelines. Projects cannot be highly political or sexual in nature. Outside of those parameters, let your creativity take over.

Each selected team will receive a $500 project budget. Booth space and possibly a 10-by-10-foot tent may also be provided.

Submissions are due Saturday, September 12, 2026.
